Aligned to Welsh Government’s ‘Re-Imagining Social House Building In Wales’ strategy, the project was constructed of off-site manufactured, pre-insulated timber panels. In collaboration with EnCon and Castleoak, the panels were manufactured in Ebbw Vale and are pre-fitted with first fix services and windows. The on-site construction period was considerably quicker than traditional approaches with exceptional build quality. Pentan were subsequently involved in a series of interviews and studies on the project with a view of highlighting the significant benefits of MMC in urban housing schemes.
Located in the Pillgwenlly area of Newport, the open market sales scheme for Pobl Group is an ambitious regeneration venture in an area typified by mid-20th century social housing. A total of 16no. 3-bedroom dwellings were delivered with two house types incorporated. The scale of the development is consistent with surrounding context and the layout aims to provide an attractive internal street scene with a view of encouraging a sense of place. Replacing the outdated Kirby Daniel Court, (an older person’s flats and bedsit scheme), the design maximises the land use while ensuring neighbouring amenity.
